Terps Fall in Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. - The Maryland men's tennis team swept doubles, but lost to No. 63 Clemson, 4-2, Friday afternoon at Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. No. 36 Maros Horny and John Collins dispatched of No. 53 Yannick Maden and Ayrton Wibowo to open the match.
The Terps (4-10, 1-3 ACC) started strong with three doubles victories to earn a 1-0 lead. Horny and Collins took care of Maden and Wibowo, 8-5, at the No. 1 position to start off the day.
Juniors Jesse Kiuru and Andy Magee clinched the team point with a 8-6 win over Dominique Maden and Wes Moran at No. 3, and junior Tommy Laine and freshman Vlad Stefan completed the sweep with a 8-6 defeat of Gerardo Meza and Zachary Rigsby at No. 2.
Clemson earned the first four points in singles action to secure the victory. The Tigers tallied wins at No. 1, 4, 2 and 3 singles. Collins closed the match with a three-set victory over Hunter Harrington.
Maryland travels to Atlanta, Ga., to take on No. 69 Georgia Tech on Sunday, March 25 at noon at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
