COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Rising sophomore Alex Doody scored twice, but the University of Maryland women's soccer team dropped its first match of the spring, 3-2, to future ACC foe Pittsburgh on Sunday.
The Panthers opened the game with a flourish, scoring all three goals in the first 19 minutes of play.
The Terrapins responded well in the second half with two goals from Doody, but couldn't get the equalizer before time expired.
"We learned a pretty valuable lesson today," said Maryland head coach Jonathan Morgan. "Soccer is more than just having possession of the ball. If you don't take care of the little details and make the most of your opportunities than this game will punish you. Pitt came out with a great energy. They were committed from the opening whistle and put us on our heels right from the start.
"However, I'm happy with how we responded in the second half. With a little luck we could have had one or two additional goals. As always, we'll learn from this game and prepare ourselves for a better performance on Friday."
Maryland continues its spring season on Friday, April 6 when it hosts regional foe George Mason at 4 p.m. in College Park.
