GREENSBORO, Ga. - Maryland head football coach Randy Edsall and former Terp quarterback Stan Gelbaugh had an impressive showing during Tuesday's sixth-annual Chick-fil-A Bowl Challenge charity golf tournament.

Edsall and Gelbaugh combined to shoot 9-under on the 7,029-yard, par-72 Oconee course on Reynolds Plantation to finish in a tie for second with the Florida State team of Jimbo Fisher and Terrell Buckley.

Georgia Tech's Paul Johnson and Jon Barry repeated as team champion by posting a 10-under-par during the 18-hole tournament which featured a college football coach and school celebrity paired up.

Johnson and Barry earned $125,000 of the $520,000 scholarship purse towards a charity of their choice. They averted a three-way playoff by posting par on the 18th hole.

Edsall and Gelbaugh claimed $55,000 for their finish. They improved on last year's ninth-place showing.

Miami's Al Golden (303 yards) and Barry (308.3) won the respective longest drive competitions on Monday. Edsall was fourth with a drive of 255.8 yards.

In Monday's closest to the pin contest, Ohio State's Urban Meyer hit the 94-yard shot to within two feet to win the coaches division.

In the previous five years, the Chick-fil-A Bowl Challenge has provided $2.55 million in scholarship and charitable contributions.

In addition to the $520,000 scholarship purse, an additional $135,000 charitable donation will be made to Chick-fil-A's WinShape Homes. The Chick-fil-A Bowl Challenge is a significant contributor to the Chick-fil-A Bowl's overall charitable and scholarship donations. The Chick-fil-A Bowl leads all bowls in the country in charitable giving, including gifts of more than $13 million since 2002.

"We were all blessed to have so many great universities represented out here today and we feel fortunate to be in a position to help deliver more than $750,000 in scholarship and charity through this year's Chick-fil-A Bowl Challenge," said Gary Stokan, Chick-fil-A Bowl president and CEO.

The tournament was taped by ESPN for broadcast in the fall. The date of the broadcast will be announced this summer.
