ATHENS, Ga. - Senior Maros Horny and junior John Collins, ranked 26th nationally, lost to No. 28 Jarryd Botha and Ricky Doverspike of Alabama in straight sets Thursday afternoon in the first round of the NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Doubles Championship at Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
The Crimson Tide tandem started quickly and won the first three games to cruise to a 6-1 first-set victory. Collins and Horny battled in the second set, but were unable to overcome Botha and Doverspike as the Alabama duo won the second set, 6-3.
Collins and Horny were the first Maryland doubles team to qualify for the tournament since 2008.
