William & Mary Conquers No. 10 Maryland
WILLIAMSBURG, Va.- The William and Mary women's soccer team, ranked #11 in the nation, soundly defeated 10th-ranked Maryland, 4-1 on Sunday. The Terrapins (2-10 scored the game's first goal when Kerl Sarver took a misplayed ball from the Tribe's keeper and placed it into the open net 30:47 into the first half. William and Mary came back, once again, and scored two goals late in the first half, capped off by senior tri-captain and two-time All American midfielder Ann Cook's blast from just outside the box.
The Tribe (3-0) came out in the second half and continued to put the pressure on the Terps, out-shooting Maryland 11-2. W&M increased its lead early in the second half as sophomore Carrie Moore knocked a header in off of a deflected shot from classmate Missy Wycinsky. Lindsay Nohl also assisted on the score which put the Tribe up, 3-1.
William and Mary had several shots deflect off of the cross bar, but were able to find the net once more as Wycinsky poked a sliding shot past the keeper following a superb pass from senior Melissa Kenny.
William and Mary will host CAA opponent East Carolina Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. at Busch Field
