Track and Field Teams Back in Action
Stats
FAIRFAX, Va.-The Men and Women's Terrapin Track Teams got their seasons restarted, traveling to Fairfax, VA for George Mason's Father Diamond Memorial Track Meet. Coming off the holiday break, both teams were slowed down by illness and injuries, but still saw success, most notably in the field events.
Junior Jamie Wu had an IC4A-qualifying 53'07.50 throw in the shot put, topping the career best he set last month at the Navy Invitational (53'03.75). Senior distance specialist Greg Hunger also qualified for IC4A competition in the Mile Run.
For the third straight meet, the women's throwing team dominated the rest of the competition. Senior Heather Atkinson, an ACC Champion thrower last season, won the shot put and 20 lb weight throws. Freshman Tene Aiken took second and sophomore Thera Larson placed fourth in the shot put. Sophomore Cathy Porter and Aiken also won second and fourth, respectively, in the 20 lb weight throw.
The Track and Field teams head to Newark, DE on January 17th for the Delaware Invitational. It will be the first meet where they will compete for team awards.
