Laitta on Chiu: “Chris is coming off of a very successful fall season and will challenge for the top singles and doubles spot on the team.  His aggressive serve and volley style have moved to the next level.  I am counting on Chris for his leadership to help out the young players.  He is a very hard worker and thrives on competition.”
Fall 2002:  Teamed with freshman Scott Peters and had a near perfect season in doubles play and finished with a 6-1 record  … the duo’s solid performance carried them to regionals … in singles action, Chiu advanced to the quarterfinals in Flight A of the East Coast Championships  … saw action in the No. 1 spot in singles play.
2002: A major contributor for the Terps at the number two singles position ... recorded a 6-11 record in singles competition, including a 6-2 mark against non-conference opponents ... teamed with Greg Chambers to record six victories at the number three position ... tied for a tea-high five match winning streak in singles during the season ... member of the team that was awarded the 2002 President’s Cup for having the highest team GPA at the University of Maryland.
Fall 2001: Had a stellar fall season, winning the B flight title at the West Virginia Fall Classic. … runner-up in the B flight at the N.C. State Fall Invitational … teamed up with freshman Haris Causevic to beat both St. John’s and Navy at the Navy Invitational. 
2001: Began the season 6-0 all against non-conference teams… finished the year undefeated vs. non-conference opponents… led the team in victories in singles play with six… with teammate Dan Kenshalo compiled a 5-6 overall including a 3-0 mark in non-conference play… competed at the No. 1 singles position in all but one match.  
Fall 2000: Reached the quarterfinals in the Flight A singles draw at the DC Metropolitan Classic…placed seventh in the Flight A singles draw at the NC State Wolfpack Invitational… teamed with Larry Chou to place sixth in the Flight A doubles draw at the NC State Wolfpack Invitational while reaching the semifinals of the Flight A doubles draw at the DC Metropolitan Classic.
2000: Began the season with a three-match win streak, all over non-conference opponents…. tallied a team-high five non-conference victories…. led the team with a 5-9 record in singles play…. proved to be a versatile player, competing at the Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 4 spots…. competed in all 14 regular season matches…. with teammate Larry Chou, compiled a 3-2 record over non-conference opponents at the No. 2 doubles position…. Member of team that was awarded the President's Cup for having the highest team GPA at Maryland.
Fall 1999: Advanced to the semifinals of the Flight A doubles bracket with Jon Murchison at the NC State Wolfpack Invitational … won the Flight A doubles backdraw with teammate Peter Harjes at the D.C. Metro Invitational.
Before Maryland: Attended Maryland's McDonogh High School … lettered in tennis all four years … as a senior received all county/city and all state honors … was MIAA champion at the Nos. 1 and 2 positions … received a 79th place national ranking in USTA … his junior year he was ranked third in Mid-Atlantic Region … set record of 52 consecutive sets won as a freshman … was champion in Maryland 16-18 age group.
Personal: Christopher Pean Chiu … born September 28, 1981 … son of Mary and Harry Chiu ... enjoys sleeping and relaxing … majoring in computer science.
