On Dawson: A nice addition to the Terps team ... look for great things from this scrappy freshman ... a true lefty who will be a big asset in doubles ... the squads' only freshman that is a Maryland native.
Fall 2003: Participated in all three tournaments this fall for the Terps ... collected his first collegiate singles and doubles wins at the DC Metro Invitational.
Before Maryland: Attended Dulaney High where he was both the top seed and the MVP during his three years on the team ... a lefty who achieved a USTA ranking of 10 in the Mid-Atlantic ... a 2002 member of the Mid Atlantic Junior Davis Cup Team ... reached the state finals as a sophomore ... during his senior year he participated in several national tournaments.
Personal: Born Joseph Chase Dawson on February 18, 1985 ... parents are Kathryn Rogers and Bob Dawson ... has one brother, Rian (15) ... interests include basketball and music ... lists his favorite athlete as Roger Federer because of his style of play and the way he reacts to success ... admires his parents the most because of the way they have supported him through everything ... was recruited by St. Joseph's, UMass, and William & Mary ... chose Maryland because he has always wanted to attend Maryland and be a Terp.
