Jack Brasington begins his second season as an assistant head coach for the Maryland Men's Tennis team. A native of Miami, Florida, Brasington comes to Maryland after spending the last two years as a volunteer assistant coach at Tulane University. A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, Brasington holds the Longhorn men's tennis record with 121 career victories. While at Texas, Brasington was ranked as high as seventh in the country.
"Jack is going to be an outstanding addition to our program, "Head Coach Jim Laitta said. "We are very lucky to have him at Maryland. He brings a great deal of tennis knowledge, especially from playing on the Pro Tour. He will be a key contributor in all facets of our program." The former Longhorn competed on the Pro Tour from 2000-2003. On the tour, he became one of three players in tennis history to qualify for all four Grand Slams in a row. While on tour, Brasington was ranked as high as 125 in singles competition. He also competed against some of the top players in the country including Roger Federer, Sebastien Grosjean, Andy Roddick, Vince Spadea, Feliciano Lopez, and Marty Fish. In 2001, Brasington advanced to the second round of the U.S. Open where he fell to Andy Roddick in a close four set tie-breaker. A huge addition to the Maryland Tennis program Brasington said, "I am very excited to be here. I look forward to building Maryland into a top tennis program and helping each player meet their full potential."
