Two Terps Named Pre-Season All-American by Street and Smith's Magazine
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Senior Eric Ogbogu and junior Eric Barton, returning starters on the Maryland football team, have been named as pre-season Honorable Mention All-Americas by Street and Smith's College Football Magazine. Both players were Honorable Mention All-ACC honorees following the 1996 season and return to lead the Terps defense which ranked 29th nationally and fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference in total defense last season.
Ogbogu (Tarrytown, N.Y./Archbishop Stepanic) will help anchor the Terps defensive front from a defensive end position. Ogbogu is a two-time All-ACC selection who finished fifth on the team with 64 tackles and was the team leader with seven sacks. He also contributed a team-high 15 tackles for minus yardage.
Barton (Alexandria, Va./Thomas A. Edison High School) led the Terps in tackles as a sophomore in 1996 recording a career-high 106 stops.
