Terps' Rodgers and Hicks on FWAA All-America Checklist
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- University of Maryland tailback Buddy Rodgers and defensive tackle Johnnie Hicks have been named to the Football Writers Association of America checklist for its' 1997 All-America Team. Rodgers and Hicks are returning starters for the Terps who play host to Ohio University on September 6 to begin the 1997 season.
Rodgers (East Providence, R.I./East Providence) finished 10th overall in the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1997 with a 47.6 yards per game average. He rushed for 447 yards on the season. He has rushed for 1,312 yards during his three-year Maryland career. Rodgers rushed for a career-high 176 yards and scored the game-winning touchdown against Duke on October 26, 1996.
Hicks (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehana) finished fourth on the team in tackles with 67 last season and will start on Maryland's defensive line for the third consecutive year. He recorded a career-high 14 tackles versus Clemson on November 2, 1996 and was named as the Terps' Most Valuable Lineman in 1995.
