Terps Win Second Straight
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Brian Cummings tossed a 76-yard touchdown pass on the first play
from scrimmage and freshman Brian Kopka kicked three field goals
as Maryland slipped past Duke, 16-10, in an Atlantic Coast
Conference game.
Maryland (2-3, 1-2 ACC) started the game on its own 24-yard line
and Cummings hit Jason Hatala for the Terrapins' lone touchdown.
Kopka -- the third true freshman kicker in school history --
extended Maryland's lead with a 36-yard field goal 1:40 before
halftime.
But Duke (2-3, 0-2) battled back to tie. Sims Lenhardt booted a
44-yard field goal eight seconds before halftime and Dawud
Rasheed scored on a two-yard run 4:21 into the third quarter.
Kopka's 46-yard field goal broke the tie with 79 seconds left in
the third quarter and added a 31-yarder early in the fourth.
Maryland beat Duke for the 11th time in 15 games at home.
