Mark Duffner Released As Head Football Coach
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- After a comprehensive and careful review of the direction of the football program over the previous five years, Athletic Director Deborah A. Yow announced today that Mark Duffner and his coaching staff have been released from their duties. As a part of this review, all relevant factors related to the football program were weighed and the future of the program was taken into careful consideration.
A search will be undertaken to identify and employ a respected and highly achieving professional from the NCAA Division IA level. There has been no set arbitrary date to achieve this hiring, but the University will move with alacrity and thoroughness through this process in order to employ a coach with impeccable credentials, and who can move the program forward and who supports the values of this great University.
Maryland thanks Mark Duffner for his enthusiastic efforts on behalf of Maryland Football over the past five years and certainly wish him and his staff the very best success in their future endeavors.
A screening committee composed of the University faculty and administrators will convene this week to begin the formal process of reviewing potential candidates for the position of head coach of Maryland Football.
NOTE: A media briefing opportunity will be held at 4:00 p.m. today in Tyser Tower, level 2 on the University of Maryland campus.
