Maryland's ACC Championships
A charter member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Maryland football program has enjoyed tremendous success in its nearly 60 years in one of the top leagues in the country.
The Terrapins shared the first-ever ACC title with Duke in 1953 and has gone on to claim nine conference championships, which is the third-most in league history.
Jim Tatum led the Terps to the 1953 ACC title, as well as the National Championship that season.
Jerry Claiborne and Bobby Ross each led the Terps to three-straight ACC titles.
Claiborne’s teams had a perfect 16-0 league mark from 1974-76 and Ross followed up the next decade with ACC crowns in 1984-86. Ross’ teams produced an unblemished 18-0 conference mark in that three-year span and won at least eight games each season.
The Terps earned their last ACC title in 2001 when Ralph Friedgen led the team on a run through the league slate in his first season.
A 37-20 home victory on Nov. 10 against Clemson ensured a share of the 2001 ACC championship and the Terps secured the outright title the following week with a 23-19 road win over NC State.
