All-America Tradition
From Jack Scarbath to Stan Jones to Randy White and more recently, E.J. Henderson and Vernon Davis, some of the all-time greats in college football have donned the Maryland jersey.
The Terps have produced 10 consensus All-Americans in their history and close to 300 All-America accolades.
Bob Ward, who later coached the team, was Maryland?™s first consensus All-American, earning the honor in 1951 after helping lead the team to a 10-0 record and No. 3 national ranking.
Scarbath was a consensus All-American in 1952, as well as a runner-up for the Heisman Trophy, while Jones secured the distinction in 1953 prior to an NFL Hall of Fame career.
White, a member of both the College Football and NFL Hall of Fames, was a consensus All-American in 1974 when the Terps secured their first of three straight ACC titles.
Henderson and Davis, both in the midst of successful NFL careers, were named first team All-Americans by the Associated Press. Henderson was selected in both 2001 and 2002, Davis earned the honor in 2005.
