On Richmond: Former high school quarterback who is working at free safety in his first season at the collegiate level … an athletic player who is a strong candidate to redshirt due to outstanding depth in the Maryland secondary this year.
High School: A three-year letterwinner and 2002 graduate of South Hagerstown High School in Hagerstown, Md. … a state champion sprinter who was rated the fourth-best quarterback in the Atlantic Region by PrepStar and the top QB in the state of Maryland his senior year … a three-year varsity starter (he did not compete at South Hagerstown in football as a sophomore while attending Montrose Christian before transferring back to South Hagerstown) who saw most of his action as a freshman at split end … in his two full seasons directing an option attack, he completed 119-of-218 passes for 2,022 yards and 19 touchdowns while rushing for 919 yards and 12 touchdowns on 170 carries … as a senior, he passed for 1,018 yards and 10 touchdowns and rushed for 535 yards and nine TD’s … named PrepStar All-American in addition to being named SuperPrep all-region, honorable mention all-state, All-Washington County and all-league … against Francis Scott Key, he completed 22 of 37 passes for 296 yards and three touchdowns, one of the top passing games in the state in 2001 … as a junior, he passed for 843 yards and eight touchdowns and rushed for 384 yards and three scores … also had four interceptions on defense … was named the Offensive Player of the Year in Washington County and all-area as a defensive back … as a freshman in 1998, he started on the varsity at split end (14 receptions for 162 yards) before starting at quarterback for the final three games of the season … he totaled five career interceptions while playing on defense, including one returned 95 yards for a game-winning touchdown vs. Middletown … won the state 800-meter title in 1999 and the state 400-meter title (48.0) in 2001 … as a point guard on the basketball team., he started as a freshman and was the team’s leading scorer as a junior and senior … also recruited by West Virginia, Virginia Tech, North Carolina and Virginia … high school coach was Greg Kellick.
