As a Sophomore (2009): Sat out due to NCAA transfer rules ... served as the scout-team quarterback.

As a Redshirt Freshman (2008): Started four games at quarterback (vs. Temple, at Bowling Green, vs. Kent State and at Buffalo) ... his first varsity action came in the fourth quarter at Michigan when starter Daniel Raudabaugh was injured ...threw for 639 yards, completing nearly 55 percent of his passes on the season ... his best individual effort came in a victory at Bowling Green, connecting on a 53-yard touchdown pass to Chris Givens ... also tossed for 171 yards and a touchdown vs. Kent State.

As a Freshman (2007 at Miami [Ohio]): Redshirted.

At Northmont High School: Passed for more than 4,400 yards and 44 touchdowns in 2005 and 2006 ... earned first-team conference accolades as a junior, throwing for 2,700 yards and 30 TDs ... a broken hand limited him to 1,700 yards passing and 14 TDs in 2006 ... led Northmont to state playoff appearances in 2005 and 2006 with records of 8-3 each year ... named First-Team All-Ohio in 2005 and garnered second-team honors in 2006 ... also captained the basketball team for the Thunderbolts ... coached by Lance Schneider.

Personal: Parents are Craig and Lisa Belton ... given name is Craig Belton III ... brother, Chase, plays football at Wabash (Ind.) University ... also has a younger brother, Cameron ... a distant relative, Ed Wells, who pitched in Major League Baseball for the Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees and St. Louis Browns ... Wells was a teammate of Babe Ruth ... started playing football as a seventh grader, modeling his style after former Miami star Ben Roethlisberger.
