Selection Show Quotes
Selection Monday Quotes
Head Coach Brenda Frese
On thoughts on being a No. 1 seed:
"I think it shows that we had a really consistent season, especially when you go undefeated and win your conference tournament. At this point however, none of that matters because you just have to be able to come out and play you best basketball. Regardless, it's nie to have Maryland basketball be recognized as a number one seed.
On the road ahead:
" You know what, they are all hard roads when you look at the bracket at this point. You just have to go out and play your best basketball for 40 minutes. We are going to take it one game at a time, be prepared, and if we advance then we will play our next opponent."
On playing in Spokane:
"Basketball is basketball. You shouldn't overthink it in terms of the distance and the time change because at the end of the day it's just stepping out and playing the best basketball for 40 minutes."
On playing on Saturday:
"Playing on Saturday helps our staff obviously, they are able to continue to help this team be the most prepared team. I know our staff will be getting after it with a lot of film to get our team prepared."
On preparing the team for tournament play:
"It's both on and off the court for preparing them for the opponents we are going to play and see. For us, it's going to be executing what we do best and taking that into the game."
On selection show feelings:
"It never gets old. It's an honor to be selected and to see your university and your name up in the lights. It's something that we will never take for granted."
On having a young team as a number one seed:
"It's pretty special. Last year, with the experience we had, we were a four seed with five seniors but that just tells you to never think about expectations or set a bar. You have teams unfold within the season, and this team has shown that."
On starting tournament run in College Park:
"It means a lot. First of all, it means that our administration supports us. Then, to have the best fans in the country come out and support this team. You hope that it gives you a home court advantage come tournament time but it really means a lot to have our sixth man, our fans, in the building as we play at home."
On message to players for the tournament:
"Whether it's conference tournament or the NCAA, it's take it one game at a time and you can't look too far out ahead. It's one game at a time and playing your best basketball that you possibly can."
Senior Guard Laurin Mincy
On being a one seed:
"It's very special that we got a one seed. But we're not going to look at the number besides our name, we're going to come into every game being hungry and humble. We've been in this position last year, we got to the final four. But we want to extend that, we want to do better than we did last year."
On the toughness of the region:
"We just have to take it one game at a time. We have to focus on New Mexico State and just take it from there. It's a really great bracket we're in, I'm really excited for all the competition that we'll face."
On starting the tournament run at the Xfinity Center:
"Obviously it's really special and personal for me. It will be my last games actually playing in this building. I'm very humbled and appreciative for that moment."
On what point she thought it would be a special season:
"I kind of knew it would be a special season after we bounced back to our Washington State loss and our loss at Notre Dame. We reconnected with each other and the coaches and we just got back to normal basketball in terms of rebounding and just playing hard. Throughout the season we played hard and stuck together and it showed on the court."
On being a target:
"I'm sure being the number one seed, everyone's going to want to come in and beat you. But, we've been a target the whole season. In the Big Ten, we were the team to beat. Everyone's going to play their best in March, and we're going to play our best too."
Sophomore Center Brionna Jones
On not having lost a game since December 3rd:
"I think about it but if I think about it too much it's going to put a lot of pressure on us. We just have to keep taking it one game at a time and keep working and we'll be fine."
On being a target:
"I think it just gives us experience. Going into all those schools and having a target on our back and being undefeated and playing with that pressure everyday, I think that is going to help us in the tournament . Especially with being a number one seed."
On being a number one seed:

Sophomore Guard Lexie Brown
On this year's selection show:
"The setting was a little different this year, so it was a lot more fun. We knew we had a really good chance at being a one seed, but it was still nerve-wracking. To see our name pop up there with a one next to it, was really amazing."
On being named a one-seed:
"I think we worked all year to prove to everybody that we can be a great team no matter what. I am really proud of this team and that we were able to do that."
On the competition in their region:
"We are all about taking it one game at a time. We are just going to focus on New Mexico State to begin with. Princeton is an amazing team. To go undefeated the entire year, at any level is incredible for anybody at any level. If we happen to meet them, that would be great to play an amazing team like that, but we are going one game at a time."
