#1 Terps Take On Georgetown Wednesday

The No. 1 Maryland women’s lacrosse team (10-0, 1-0 B1G) takes a short trip to the nation's capital to face Georgetown (2-7, 1-0 Big East) Wednesday. Opening draw is scheduled for 7 p.m.

  • The Terps are averaging 14.10 goals per game while limiting opponents to 6.60 goals per game, which is the sixth ranked scoring defense in the country. Maryland has allowed more than seven goals only twice this season (11 vs. North Carolina, 10 vs. James Madison).
  • Junior Taylor Cummings leads the Terrapins with 17 assists, 47 points, 18 ground balls, 75 draw controls and 18 caused turnovers. Freshman Megan Whittle leads Maryland with 33 goals.
  • Redshirt senior goalkeeper Alex Fitzpatrick has started all 10 games and holds a 6.06 goals-against average and .523 save percentage.
  • The Terps are on a 20-game win streak - the longest currently in Division I - and have not lost since April 5, 2014.
  • Head coach Cathy Reese picked up her 200th career win in the Terps’ 16-6 win over Florida on March 14.

  • Georgetown snapped a five-game losing streak with a 10-6 win over Vanderbilt last Saturday to open Big East play. The Hoyas are 2-7 on the season with their only other win coming over George Mason on March 4.
  • The Hoyas are averaging 7.67 goals per game while allowing 11.44 goals per game.
  • Caroline Tarzian and Kristen Bandos each have 12 goals through nine games. Tarzian leads the team with 17 points. Maddy Fisher has started every game in goal and holds an 11.51 goals-against average and .375 save percentage.

  • The Terps are 18-4 all-time against the Hoyas. Head coach Cathy Reese is 6-0 in her career vs. Georgetown.
  • This is the first time the teams have played since 2012. The Terps took a 19-10 decision over the Hoyas in the meeting.

  • Led by a balanced attack and staunch defense, Maryland picked up a dominant 16-5 win over No. 4 Northwestern last Thursday night in the inaugural Big Ten lacrosse game. RECAP | STATS
  • Six Terrapins scored multiple goals, led by five from freshman Megan WhittleKelly McPartland recorded a hat trick, and Brooke GriffinZoe StukenbergTaylor Cummings and Kristen Lamon each scored twice.
  • Goalkeeper Alex Fitzpatrick made seven saves and picked up a ground ball. The Terrapin defense held the Wildcats to five goals, more than five less than their season average.

  • Maryland is 89-2 in College Park under head coach Cathy Reese.
  • The Terps have won all seven games in which they have played an opponent ranked No. 1 or 2 at home in the past seven seasons.

TURN TO TAYLOR

  • Junior midfielder Taylor Cummings, the reigning Tewaaraton winner, has made her presense known across the field as she leads the Terps in every major stat category.
  • Cummings currently leads Maryland in assists (17), points (47), shots (63), ground balls (18), draw controls (75) and caused turnovers (18), and is second on the team in goals (30).
  • The Ellicott City, Md., native is first in the Big Ten and fifth nationally in draw controls/game (7.50). She is first in the conference and 10th nationally in points/game (4.70). Cummings also leads the conference and is 10th nationally in caused turnovers/game (1.80).

fitzpatrick makes statement with terps

  • A transfer from Lehigh, redshirt senior Alex Fitzpatrick has led the Terps in goal. Fitzpatrick has started all 10 games and has played 505 minutes in the cage.
  • Fitzpatrick boasts a 6.06 goals-against average and .523 save percentage. Her GAA is good for fifth in the nation and first in the conference, while her save percentage is ranked fourth in the NCAA and first in the Big Ten.
  • Fitzpatrick allowed a season-low two goals against Towson, and kept the Tigers off the board completely in the second half. She also recorded a season-best 10 saves against Towson.

not so whittle

  • Freshman Megan Whittle has made an immediate impact for the Terps in her first season.
  • Whittle has scored 33 goals in 10 games, which ranks first on the team. It also puts her at 12th in the nation in total goals.
  • Whittle was named to the Tewaaraton Watch List earlier in March. She is the only freshman on the prestigious list.
  • Whittle has been named the conference’s Freshman of the Week three times, the most of any honoree. She was also named ILWomen.com’s Freshman of the Week once.
  • The attacker came to Maryland as the top-ranked member of her class by Inside Lacrosse.

  • The Terps are slated to play at least 11 games this season on the Big Ten Network platform.
  • Maryland will be featured on the Big Ten Network as the Terps take on Penn (3/18), Northwestern (3/26) and Penn State (4/23).

six terrapins named to tewaaraton watch list

  • Taylor Cummings, Megan Douty, Brooke Griffin, Kelly McPartland and Alice Mercer were named to the 2015 Tewaaraton Watch List in February.
  • Megan Whittle was added to the watch list in March and is the only freshman on the list.
  • The six Terps are the most players from any program named to the 53-player watch list.
  • All five upperclassmen were named Inside Lacrosse preseason All-Americans.
  • Cummings is the reigning Tewaaraton Award winner, while Douty was a finalist last season.
