ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Head coach Brenda Frese and members of the Final Four Maryland women's basketball team visited the Maryland State House Monday where they met Governor Larry Hogan and other members of the government.
Governor Hogan and Lieutenant Governor Boyd Rutherford welcomed the Terrapins to the Governor's office and took official photos. They also presented the Terps with a Governor's citation, thanking them for representing the state of Maryland.
"I know you made the entire state of Maryland very proud," Governor Hogan said. "We were ready to fly down to Tampa. My whole family, our whole staff, we watched every single game in the tournament and just loved it. Your coaches had you prepared and you played as a team. I know you made your university, your athletic director, your president, and your governor very proud."
The Terrapins moved on to meet with members of the State Senate, where they voted unanimously to salute the Terps for their outstanding season with a Big Ten championship and a second straight trip to the Final Four. Across the hall, the Terrapins met the members of the House of Delegates.
"We're so proud to be here and recognize what a special season this was," Frese said. "We could not be more proud of our team with how they represented their university and the state of Maryland."
Junior Malina Howard was recognized by both the Governor and the House of Delegates for winning the prestigious Elite 89 Award, which is awarded to the student-athlete with the highest GPA in the Final Four.
A few of the Final Four Terrapins could not make the trip because of class obligations.
