COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Sophomore Kristen Confroy set career highs with 24 points and 10 rebounds as eighth-ranked Maryland cruised past Northwestern 80-62 on Sunday.
"I thought we really set the tone from the tip. I thought we were ready to play,” head coach Brenda Frese said. “I thought Brene Moseley and Kristen Confroy were sensational today. It was so much fun to be able to watch Kristen shoot the ball with that much confidence. Big difference for us, it really opened up the offense, go them out of the zone. Northwestern's a great team. They're very scrappy and pesky. Just a great win for us."
Brene Moseley added 17 points for the Terrapins, who have won four straight. Brionna Jones had 14 points and 14 rebounds, while Shatori Walker-Kimbrough also scored 14 points for Maryland (16-2, 5-1 Big Ten).
Confroy tied a school record with eight 3-pointers. Katie Rutan (2014), Kristi Toliver (2009) and Tiffany Brown (2000) also scored eight 3s in a game. Confroy also recorded her first career double-double against the Wildcats.
The Terps shot 45 percent from the field, including 53 percent from 3-point range, while holding Northwestern to just 37 percent. Maryland led for the entire game and held off a Wildcat comeback attempt in the second half. The Terps outrebounded the Wildcats 52-31.
Next, the Terrapins will travel to Wisconsin (6-9, 2-3) for a midweek matchup Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET. The Terps-Badgers matchup will be streamed live online through BTN Plus and will require a subscription.
After Wednesday’s matchup, the Terrapins will return home to host No. 18 Michigan State (13-4, 4-2) Saturday at 2 p.m. at the XFINITY Center.
