Jones Reaches 1,000 Points as #5 Terps Beat Indiana

COLLEGE PARK, Md.  – Junior Brionna Jones notched a double-double and reached 1,000 career points as the No. 5 Maryland women’s basketball team used a third-quarter run to defeat Indiana 86-63 Saturday, the Terrapins' seventh straight victory.

"I thought Indiana came out and was ready to play, which we expected,” head coach Brenda Frese said. “I thought that our spurt in the third quarter when we came right out of half time was the difference in the game. It was an OK first half but I thought better basketball in the second half.”

Shatori Walker-Kimbrough and Brene Moseley both led the game with 16 points. Brionna Jones had 10 points and 12 rebounds to help Maryland move into a first-place tie with Ohio State in the Big Ten.

With a layup in the third quarter, Jones became the 31st player in program history to reach the 1,000-career points mark.

Indiana took an early lead before Walker-Kimbrough and Moseley helped take back the momentum in the first quarter. Moseley scored a buzzer-beating jumper to give Maryland a 23-10 lead after one.

The Terrapins (19-2, 8-1) let a 15-point lead dwindle to 41-34 before Walker-Kimbrough scored seven points in a 20-2 spree that turned the game into a rout in the third quarter. Jones contributed a layup and a three-point play to the surge. The Terps outscored the Hoosiers 32-12 in the third quarter.

Eleven different players scored for Maryland as the Terps held a 47-14 advantage in bench points. The Terps outrebounded the Hoosiers 45-35 and held an 18-9 advantage in assists.

Next, the Terrapins will travel to Purdue (15-5, 6-3) for a 6 p.m. ET game Tuesday at the Boilermakers' Mackey Arena. Tuesday's game will be televised around the world on the Big Ten Network, BTN2Go.com and the BTN2Go app.
