#8 Terrapins Dominate Cornhuskers, 89-50

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Senior center Malina Howard led the Terrapins with 15 points on 7-of-7 shooting as the No. 8 Maryland women’s basketball team breezed past Nebraska, 89-50, Thursday evening in the XFINITY Center.

“I was really excited by our response coming off our last game,” head coach Brenda Frese said. “We were really ready to go from the first tip. I thought it showed great character. When you look across the board in terms of how we defended, rebounded and shared the basketball we were able to make many easy play and get up in down in transition. I felt it was one of our most complete games.”

Howard led the game in points as five Terps posted double-digit points. Brene Moseley added 14 points, and Brionna Jones and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough each had 11 for Maryland (13-2, 2-1 Big Ten). Tierney Pfirman was 5 of 7 from the field and finished with 10 points for the Terrapins.

Maryland capitalized on turnovers and used strong defense to hold Nebraska (9-5, 0-3) to 30.2 percent shooting from the field.

The Terps shot 52.7 percent from the field, including 42.9 percent from behind the arc. After leading 20-10 at the end of the first quarter, Maryland used a series of runs in the second to push ahead, 46-21. Walker-Kimbrough ended the first half with seven straight points.

Maryland’s depth was on display in the second half as the Terps used their bench to increase continue dominating.

Next, the Terrapins will travel to head coach Brenda Frese’s home state of Iowa this weekend for a matchup with the Hawkeyes (12-2, 2-0) Sunday. Maryland and No. 22 Iowa will tip-off at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN2. Watch around the world on the WatchESPN app or at WatchESPN.com.

Frese is a native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which is less than 26 miles from the University of Iowa campus in Iowa City. The Terrapins will visit her hometown and her family’s home on the trip.
