Hensh, Cummings Earn B1G Weekly Honors

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – After leading the No. 1 Maryland women’s lacrosse team to a 14-9 win over No. 3 Syracuse, sophomore midfielder Taylor Hensh and senior midfielder Taylor Cummings earned Big Ten weekly honors Tuesday. Hensh was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week while Cummings earned Defensive Player of the Week.
Hensh broke out against the Orange, tallying four goals on seven and one assist. The Woodstock, Md., native went 2-of-3 on free-position shots and tied the game twice for the Terps after Syracuse took the lead. She also recorded her first career assist against the Orange.
Cummings helped limit the Syracuse offense, picking up four ground balls and causing three turnovers. She also scored a second-half hat trick, including two free-position goals, and picked up two draw controls.
This is the first career player of the week honors for Hensh. Cummings has been earned Big Ten weekly honors nine times in her career, including six offensive and three defensive. This is the second time she has been named Defensive Player of the Week this season.
Hensh shared offensive honors with Penn State’s Madison Carter, who was also named Freshman of the Week.
The Terps (5-0) face another difficult matchup this weekend as the travel to No. 2 Florida (9-0) this Saturday for a noon game.
