COLLEGE PARK, Md. - As part of Maryland Day this Saturday, the Maryland Chapter of Uplifting Athletes is raising awareness and funds for the rare disease community.
The Maryland Chapter will be part of the Maryland Day Expo at McKeldin Terrace in front of the library from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Maryland football fans can come out and meet members of the 2016 football team and enjoy an interactive Terps Player Experience as part of the Maryland Day Celebration.
“This is one of the best things we do as a Maryland student-athlete,” said junior offensive lineman Joe Marchese, who is the President of the Maryland Chapter of Uplifting Athletes. “You get to meet with the local kids and fans coming out for Maryland day. And then we’re also working towards a good cause with Uplifting Athletes. It’s a day that we all look forward to.”
The Maryland Chapter will be accepting donations, or fans can click here to support the Terps and the rare disease community.
“The obstacle course is always a big hit,” explained Marchese. “We set up an area where fans can wear our helmets and jerseys while taking pictures with us. There will also be an autograph session and a meet and greet. It’s just a fun day for everyone involved.”
The nationwide network of Uplifting Athletes chapters led by college football student-athletes help bring the vision of Uplifting Athletes to life, which is to empower people to take action against rare diseases and inspires the medical community to find cures.
The Maryland Chapter started tackling rare diseases in 2009 when it joined Uplifting Athletes. The student-athlete led Maryland Chapter serves the rare disease community in honor of former Terrapins quarterback Boomer Esiason.
