Stukenberg Named to Academic All-District Team

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Junior midfielder Zoe Stukenberg of the No. 1 Maryland women’s lacrosse team was named to the 2016 Academic All-District Women’s At-Large Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

A biological sciences major with a 4.00 grade-point average, Stukenberg was chosen as one of 11 female student-athletes in Division I selected to the District 2 team. The Ellicott City, Md., native won the Elite 89 Award at the 2015 NCAA Championship as the student with the highest GPA competing at the finals site.

A co-captain, Stukenberg has stepped up as a leader on the field for the Terps this season. She has helped lead the team to a 19-0 record and the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles. Stukenberg was named as one of 25 Tewaaraton nominees and was unanimously selected to the All-Big Ten team. She ranks third on the team with 39 goals, 15 assists and 54 points and is second with 34 draw controls.

The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. First-team honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

The women’s at-large program includes athletes from bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, tennis and water polo.

Stukenberg is Maryland’s first player to earn Academic All-District distinctions since Laura Merrifield was named to the second team in 2011.
