Seven Terps Named to All-Big Ten Team

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Seven members of the No. 1 Maryland women's lacrosse team earned All-Big Ten honors after leading the Terps to a 17-0 regular season record and the conference regular season title.

Senior midfielder Zoe Stukenberg, senior defender Nadine Hadnagy, junior attacker Megan Whittle and sophomore goalie Megan Taylor were unanimously selected to the All-Big Ten team. Senior attacker Caroline Wannen, sophomore defender Julia Braig and sophomore midfielder Jen Giles also earned All-Big Ten honors.

Maryland has garnered 61 all-conference honorees in head coach Cathy Reese's 11 seasons. Stukenberg and Whittle are three-time All-Big Ten selections while Hadnagy and Taylor also earned conference honors last season.

A co-captain for the Terps, Stukenberg is in the top three of each statistical category for Maryland this season, including 31 goals, 20 assists, 58 points, 37 ground balls, 53 draw controls and 16 caused turnovers. She was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week once and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week twice this season.

Also a co-captain, Hadnagy leads Maryland's defense, which ranks 16th nationally. She leads the team with 23 caused turnovers and is third with 22 ground balls. Hadnagy was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week once.

Whittle paces the Terrapin offense, which leads the nation, with 54 goals and 64 points. She is also fourth on the team with 10 assists and 15 caused turnovers. Whittle was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week twice this season. Maryland's goal leader since she arrived on campus, Whittle has a staggering 197 career goals already.

Taylor has emerged as one of the nation's top goalies as just a sophomore. She ranks second nationally with a .555 save percentage and is 15th in the nation with an. 8.93 goals-against average. Taylor earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week accolades five times this season.

Stukenberg, Hadnagy, Whittle and Taylor were named Tewaaraton nominees last week as Maryland had four of 25 players on the list.

Wannen quarterbacks Maryland's offense and leads the team with 28 assists. She is also second with 59 points and fifth with 31 goals.

Braig has stepped up as a key player on the Terps' defense and is second on the team with 22 caused turnovers. She is tied for second on the team with 26 ground balls.

Giles stepped into a starting role for Maryland on both offense and defense. She is fourth on the team with 51 points and second with 22 assists. Giles led the Terps to a win over then-No. 1 North Carolina in February and earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Senior attacker Bairre Reilly was selected as Maryland's Sportsmanship Award recipient.

Since Big Ten lacrosse began in 2015, the Terps have had 21 All-Big Ten selections.

The Attack Player, Midfielder, Defensive Player and Goaltender of the Year, along with the Freshman and Coach of the Year, will be announced on Monday, May 8 following the conclusion of the Big Ten Tournament. 

The top-ranked Terps (17-0) will host the Big Ten Tournament this weekend as the No. 1 seed. Maryland will face fourth-seeded Johns Hopkins (11-6) Friday at 6 p.m. in the semifinals.
