COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The second-seeded Maryland women’s basketball team (23-6, 12-4 B1G) will open its Big Ten Tournament run Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. They will take on seventh-seeded Indiana (17-13, 9-7).

Four Terrapins garnered Big Ten honors from the league’s head coaches and media panel Monday. Sophomore Kaila Charles was named to the All-Big Ten First Team by both the coaches and the media panel. Junior Eleanna Christinaki and senior Kristen Confroy earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors from the coaches and the media as well. Fifth-year senior Ieshia Small was voted the Big Ten Sixth Player of the Year.
Maryland is 9-0 all-time in the Big Ten Tournament, all under head coach Brenda Frese, after winning the Big Ten Tournament title in the Terps' first three seasons in the league. The Terrapins are also 6-0 in the Tournament at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Frese is 9-1 in the Big Ten Tournament, including her 2001-02 season at Minnesota.
The Terps are 5-0 all-time vs. Indiana after a 74-70 win in College Park on Jan. 16. They have never met in the Big Ten Tournament.
Maryland held off Nebraska, 77-75, Sunday in College Park. Charles led four Terps in double figures with 19 points, 11 boards. She went 4-for-6 at the foul line down the stretch with a key block. Christinaki added 13 points.
Seven Terps are scoring over 9.0 points per game - Kaila Charles (18.1), Blair Watson (13.8), Eleanna Christinaki (12.8), Stephanie Jones (11.5), Brianna Fraser (10.1), Kristen Confroy (9.8) and Ieshia Small (9.2).
The Terrapins are currently ranked No. 8 in the country in three-point field goal percentage (.396). Confroy is No. 102 in the country and leads the Big Ten in three-point FG percentage (.456). Kaila Charles is No. 8 in the league in scoring and in rebounding and No. 5 in field goal percentage. Freshman Channise Lewis averages 4.9 assists, which is fifth in the Big Ten overall and No. 2 among freshmen around the country. She is third in the league overall in assist/turnover ratio (2.7).
Kaila Charles has scored in double figures in 26 of 29 games this season. Kristen Confroy has played in 112 straight games, dating back to February of her freshman year. She is No. 3 in the Maryland record books in career three-point percentage (.405).
Maryland is ranked No. 17 in the Associated Press poll and No. 13 in the USA Today Coaches poll.
