Maryland Mourns Passing of Cliff Tucker

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland basketball family mourns the loss of Cliff Tucker from the class of 2011, who tragically lost his life Monday morning in a car accident in Texas. He was 29 years old.
Tucker was a four-year member of the Maryland basketball program, playing in 131 career games – the 12th most in program history. He was one of the program’s most prolific three-point shooters, ranking in the top-20 all-time in three-point field goal percentage (.352).
Tucker’s legacy will be forever intertwined with one of the most iconic games in XFINITY Center history, as the El Paso, Texas native hit a buzzer beating three-pointer to defeat Georgia Tech on February 20, 2010. The victory was the third in a streak of seven straight wins in the final month of the season to help propel the Terrapins to a share of the 2010 ACC Regular Season title.
Tucker led the Terps in three-pointers made (41) as a senior, and was a member of two NCAA Tournament teams in 2009 and 2010 under Hall of Fame Head Coach Gary Williams.
Remembering Cliff Tucker
“Cliff was a great teammate willing to do whatever it took to make us champions. One of the great things about coaching is getting to know each player and their passion for their family, life and basketball. That’s what makes this so difficult. He touched everyone who was a part of his life.” -- Hall of Fame Head Coach Gary Williams

Cliff Tucker and I had great moments. He was a great player, but even a better person.
