COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Twenty-one points from senior guard March? Strickland (Kingston, Mass.) paced the Maryland women's basketball team to a 62-50 win over Florida State Sunday afternoon at Cole Field House. Maryland is now 9-6 (2-2 ACC), with the Seminoles falling to 10-5 (1-3 ACC).

Strickland hit her first three-point basket 40 seconds into the game, putting the Terps up 3-2 and giving Maryland a lead it would never relinquish. The Massachusetts native hit 3-6 from beyond the arc in the first half, pacing the Terps to a 32-16 halftime lead. The Terps' defense, led by Renneika Razor (New York, N.Y.), held the Seminoles to their lowest halftime total this year and kept Seminole leading scorer April Traylor scoreless in the opening 20 minutes.

Maryland cruised in the second half, following the lead of steady point-guard Vicki Brick (Timonium, Md.), who finished with a career-high 12 assists and played all 40 minutes. Deedee Warley (Fort Washington, Md.) was outstanding on the inside, netting 12 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Terrapins Rosita Melbourne (Washington, D.C.) and Razor finished with 10 and 11 points, respectively. Razor also had four steals.

Florida State struggled with turnovers, committing 17 in the first half and finishing with 23, but won the rebounding battle 40-30. Katelyn Vujas led the Seminoles with 15. Tasheika Morris added 13, all in the second half.

Maryland won't see action again until it travels to Georgia Tech for a televised match-up on Monday, Jan. 14, at 7 p.m. The Seminoles meet Wake Forest on Jan. 10 in Raleigh, N.C. That game is also slated to start at 7 p.m.
