The Atlantic Coast Conference
The Atlantic Coast Conference is the premiere women’s lacrosse conference in the country and the Terps are one of the main reasons why.
Here is just a brief snapshot of the ACC’s dominance in the women?™s lacrosse:
• Since 1997, when the league adopted women’s lacrosse and a tradition of excellence was established, the ACC has made a total of 62 appearances, winning 89 games and owning seven NCAA crowns. Maryland has garnered a league-record six NCAA crowns, including a 13-11 victory over 2009 national champion Northwestern in 2010.
• Thirty-five players have garnered National Player of the Year accolades and three league coaches have been named National Coach of the Year honorees, all competing under the ACC banner. In 2012, both Katie Schwarzmann and Iliana Sanza picked up IWLCA National Midfielder and Defender of the Year awards, respectively.
• In addition, ACC women’s lacrosse players have earned first-, second-, or third-team IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-America honors over 200 times.
