Corey Liuget is entering his second season with the Terrapin coaching staff in 2025 and first as the Defensive Line Coach. A former first-round NFL Draft pick, Liuget spent a decade in the NFL before transitioning to coaching and quickly rising up the ranks.
In his first season at Maryland, Liuget served as a Defensive assistant, working closely with the defensive line. Liuget helped develop defensive linemen Tommy Akingbesote and Jordan Phillips, both of whom were invited to the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine.Â
Liuget started his coaching career at La Jolla Country Day School in San Diego as the Defensive Line Coach in 2022 before spending a year in the NFL’s Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship.
Liuget made his collegiate coaching debut during the 2023 season as the University of San Diego’s Assistant Defensive Line Coach.Â
Originally from Miami, Florida, Liuget starred at Illinois from 2008 to 2010, earning All-Big Ten honors in 2010, before being selected No. 18 overall by the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2011 NFL Draft.Â
Liguet spent 10 seasons in the NFL, including eight with the Chargers, before making the move to coaching. Liuget finished his NFL career with 291 tackles (219 solo), 66 tackles for loss, 26 sacks, six fumble recoveries, five forced fumbles and one touchdown.Â
