Sydney Steinberg, a Gainesville, Florida native, joined the University of Maryland as an Assistant Athletic Academic Counselor in July 2021. In February 2023, Steinberg was promoted to Assistant Director of the Barry and Mary Gossett Center where she serves as the Academic Counselor for the men’s soccer, women’s golf, and wrestling teams. She enters her fifth school year with the Terps in 2025-26. 

Sydney is a founding member of the International Student-Athlete (ISA) Working Group whose mission is to improve the UMD ISA experience by maintaining a focus on three main areas – building community, education, and compliance. Sydney also Co-Chairs the GSAC Social Committee, fostering team culture by organizing social events and gatherings that bring GSAC together beyond the workplace.

In April 2021, Steinberg graduated from the University of Florida with her Master’s in Sport Management. At Florida, she served as a Graduate Assistant working on career development, community engagement, and leadership development initiatives for student-athletes. 

Steinberg holds a BS in Business Administration from UVA-Wise where she was a four-year starter for the women’s lacrosse team. She was a part of back-to-back conference championship teams in 2018 and 2019 and was named “Cavalier of the Year” in 2018. Steinberg was UVA-Wise’s 2019 Nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year. 

In her free time, Steinberg enjoys traveling, trying new foods, taking in sunsets, and spending time with her fiance - Malik and their dog - Zeus!
