A four-year student manager for the Texas A&M men’s basketball team, Jelani Spain is in his first year as a graduate assistant for Maryland in 2025-26. He served in the same role during the 2024-25 season for Coach Buzz Williams at Texas A&M helping the Aggies reach their third consecutive NCAA Tournament.
 
At Maryland, Spain will be responsible for scouting reports on teams and player personnel, film breakdown for the coaching staff, leading on-court workouts with players, and assisting with overall equipment needs of the program.
 
Among his duties as a student manager were assisting with player workouts, managing the daily organization of the locker room and offices, and serving as the visiting team liaison. He also assisted with scouting and on-campus recruiting visits.
 
During his four seasons as a student manager, Spain was a part of two NCAA Tournament squads, one NIT Championship Game appearance and two trips to the SEC Tournament Championship Game.
 
A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Spain has also served as a team attendant for the Atlanta Hawks (NBA), head team attendant for the College Park Skyhawks (NBA G League) and football equipment intern for the Atlanta Falcons (NFL).
 
Spain earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management in 2024 and is pursuing his master’s in sports management.
