Mojuba Shonekan began his role as a Learning Specialist in the University of Maryland Athletic Department in February 2026. His approach centers on three key pillars: mentorship, structure, and tutoring. Through individualized academic plans, proactive communication, and consistent support, he helps student-athletes make incremental academic progress while balancing the demands of collegiate athletics.
Prior to this role, Shonekan held several positions across the university while balancing his responsibilities as a graduate student-athlete in the Robert H. Smith School of Business. He served as a Graduate Assistant and Business Service Specialist in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and worked as a Business Intelligence Intern within the University Relations division during the summer of 2024.
A former student-athlete, Shonekan competed in track and field at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he served as a team captain during the 2022–23 season. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Managerial Economics before continuing his athletic and academic career at the University of Maryland. As a graduate student, he competed for the Terrapins while earning a Master of Science in Business Analytics.
Originally from the Midwest, Shonekan enjoys staying connected with friends and family across the country. In his free time, he enjoys running community 5Ks, playing basketball, golfing, boxing, reading, finding a good suspenseful show to binge, and watching his favorite sports teams compete.
