Sierra Cruz joined the University of Maryland Sports Medicine Department in January 2026 as an Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Track & Field/Cross Country program.
Before coming to Maryland, Sierra served as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Coppin State University, an HBCU in Baltimore, MD. Her primary sports were women’s basketball and baseball, and she also traveled with men’s basketball, volleyball, and track & field. Prior to that role, she served as the Head Athletic Trainer at Middletown High School in Delaware.
She graduated from Delaware State University in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and from West Chester University of Pennsylvania in 2023 with a master’s degree in athletic training. During her time at West Chester University she attended her first NATA conference, was a department graduate assistant, and interned in California, where she worked preseason camp with the Stanford Cardinal football team as a MSAT student.
Sierra is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) and is currently CPR/AED certified.
Native to New Castle, DE., Sierra resides in Baltimore, MD where she enjoys exploring Baltimore and her favorite activities include attending Saturday farmers markets, flower festivals, running at the harbor and concerts.
