Cheryl Harrison returned to the Maryland athletics department in June 2017 as the Senior Associate Athletics Director and Chief Development Officer. After five and a half years in that role, Harrison transitioned to the Associate Athletics Director of Principal Gifts. She enters her eighth school year since returning ahead of 2024-25. 

With more than two decades of fund raising experience, Harrison previously spent 17 years with the athletics department. In her earlier stint, Harrison served in several capacities, starting in 1996 as a major gift fund raiser assuming additional responsibilities through the years and advancing to Executive Director of the Terrapin Club in 2009. In September 2011, she was named Senior Associate Athletics Director for Stewardship & Community Engagement, and fulfilled that role until 2013. For the last four years, Harrison has been the Director of Gift Planning in the university's central development office.

Raised in Baltimore, Harrison graduated from Winston-Salem State University (NC) with a degree in business administration and a concentration in information systems.
