Maryland Field Hockey Team Tops Radford 7-0

Junior midfielder Carla Tagliente (Cortland, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Caroline Walter (Reilingen, Germany) each netted two goals, leading second-ranked Maryland (14-1) to a 7-0 win over Radford (2-13) in field hockey action on Sunday at the Artificial Turf Facility. Tagliente also added two assists while Walter had one assist.
Walter scored the opening two goals of the game within a span off 2:42, giving her a team-leading 19 goals this season. That ties the fifth-best single-season total of 19 goals recorded by Tagliente in 1997.
As for Tagliente, her two goals gives her 49 for her career, which ties former Terp Nadine Bennett (1994-97) for the fifth-best career total in Maryland history. In the past three games, she has reeled off eight goals.
Also scoring for Maryland against Radford were senior forward Emily Ward (Ellicott City, Md.), sophomore midfielder Megan Kelly (Gaithersburg, Md.) and redshirt freshman forward Angie Klingerman (Bloomsburg, Pa.).
The Terps have now won 12 consecutive games, leaving them just three wins shy of the school-record 15-game winning streak they pulled off in 1993.
Maryland's next game is against Princeton at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Artificial Turf Facility.
