CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Maryland freshman John Moheyer (Lima, Ohio) shot three sub-par rounds to finish five-under par and capture medalist honors at the Chattanooga Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon. Playing just his fourth college tournament, Moheyer (70-69-69--208) matched his own low round of the tournament with a two-under 69 to hold off Ben Hensley of Morehead State (71-69-70--210).
Four strokes behind Hensley was Maryland senior Keith Unikel (Potomac, Md.) who tied for third place with Appalachian State's Bern Gregory at one over. Moheyer, Unikel (71-71-72--214) and Gary Mankulish (Laurel, Md.), seventh, paced the Terrapins to a first-place finish in the two-day event held at 6,704-yard Valleybrook Golf Course.
Maryland (858, +6) buried the competition with its closest competitor, Belmont University (885, +33), trailing the Terps by 27 strokes. Other finishers for the Terrapins were sophomore Corey Brigham (Rumson, N.J.), 12th at 221 (+8), and freshman Dan MacDonald (Plandome, N.Y.) who finished 25th at 227 (+14).
