COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland tailback LaMont Jordan, just a junior and threatening to become the first Maryland player and fourth in ACC history to reach 3,000 rushing yards before his senior year, is featured in this week's issue of Sports Illustrated.
Just 323 yards from 3,000 with three games remaining in his third college season, Jordan became Maryland's fourth 1,000-yard rusher in a season last week and is on pace to shatter the Terps' career rushing record. At his current pace of 135.25 rushing yards per game, Jordan is due to break the all-time Terrapin record in the very early stages of his senior year in 2000. He is just 277 yards shy of the Terps' single season rushing mark and well on pace to challenge the ACC's best season since 1970.
Jordan is a key factor in the Terps' 5-3 resurgence in 1999. Maryland is at NC State this Saturday in a game televised at Noon by JP Sports (WUSA, channel 9 in Washington, D.C., WUTB, channel 24, in Baltimore). The Terps travel to No. 1-ranked Florida State next week, Nov. 13, in an ABC-televised game at 3:30 p.m.
