Player Spotlights:
Michael Hershey started all 12 games for the Terps at center in 2025. The sophomore was an anchor for an offensive line that allowed just nine sacks on the year, tied for the third fewest in the nation. Hershey helped Maryland rush for a season-high 305 yards against Rutgers. He was named the Big Ten Center of the Week on August 31 by PFF. Hershey also received Academic All-Big Ten and CSC Academic All-District accolades for his work in the classroom.
Malik Washington piled up the accolades during his rookie season, garnering Big Ten Rookie of the Week honors twice, being chosen to the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Watch List and named to the On3 Midseason True Freshman All-American Team. Washington completed 273-of-473 passes for 2,963 yards along with 17 touchdown tosses. He set the Maryland freshman record for most completions and passing yards in a season. Washington threw for over 200 yards in 11 of 12 games and was one of only two Big Ten true freshmen since 1996 to end the year with over 2,500 passing yards and 300 rushing yards. Washington also rushed for 164 rush yards against Rutgers, the second most ever by a Terps quarterback in a single game. He ended the year throwing for 459 yards in the season finale against Michigan State, marking the second most passing yards in a single game in school history.
Daniel Wingate will be representing Maryland at Big Ten Media Days for the second straight year. The Honorable Mention All-Big Ten linebacker put together one of the most productive defensive seasons in recent program history, leading the Terps and ranking sixth in the Big Ten with 102 total tackles in 2025. Wingate became the first Terp to surpass 100 tackles in a season since Tre Watson during his All-American campaign in 2018. A consistent force in the middle of the defense, Wingate ranked second in the Big Ten and tied for seventh nationally with 62 solo tackles. He added 6.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, an interception and two quarterback hurries. Wingate recorded five double-digit tackle performances, including a career-high 14 against NIU.
