Quoting Vanderlinden
Terps At A Glance
On NC State loss: "We anticipated that North Carolina State would come out and dare us to run the ball. Right now we're not a good throwing team. We will be, because we have good, young players. If you can really shut the run down like NC State did, it makes it tough for us offensively."
On defense: "We're a defense right now that is not playing with a lot of confidence. We're not sure we have an identity right now. We continue to give up too many plays in the air."
On defensive needs: "I think we've upgraded the secondary, but we need some guys up front to put some pressure on the quarterback. We're not able to bring heat very consistently on defense, so we have to continue to work on that aspect. We've got some young guys who need to get better and we need to recruit better. When you get heat on the quarterback, that disrupts the entire passing game. And that's what we need to do."
On injuries: "We've been fairly fortunate injury-wise this year, but to lose your starting quarterback and a starting linebacker is certainly a severe blow."
On the Terps: "We've made a lot of progress. Unfortunately we didn't play well [vs. NC State]. We have a ways to go. We're on track, but we have a ways to go. I think we're on track and we've shown progress this season, but we also have a ways to go."
