Terps Wrestlers Bounce Back, Beat James Madison

HARRISONBURG, Va.) - The University of Marylandscored three falls and a forfeit to defeat James Madison31-17 in non-conference collegiate wrestling Saturdayafternoon at JMU's Godwin Hall. The Terps improved to 2-1,while the Dukes dropped their second match in as many daysto slip to 1-2. The Terps notched falls in the second and third bouts ofthe afternoon. Senior Ted Harlan (Glenmore, Pa./HaverfordPrep) pinned JMU freshman John Pagnotta (Lansdale,Pa./Methacton) 2:51 into the 149-pound bout. Freshman JakeStork then gave the Terps a 12-5 lead when he pinned JMUfreshman Seth Cameron (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) at5:48 in the 157-pound division. Cameron was leading the bout9-5 at the time of the fall. JMU sophomore Kris Bishop (Manassas, Va./StonewallJackson) scored a 9-7 decision against freshman Sal Aquina(Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley). The final seconds weredisputed by Maryland coach John McHugh when Aquina was notawarded potential bout-tying reversal points as the buzzer sounded. Nathan Rickman (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett)pulled JMU to within 12-11 with an 8-3 decision againstsophomore Chad Masemer (Littlestown, Pa./Littlestown).Rickman won for a team-best 14th time. The Terps pushed their lead to 22-11 as freshman BillMoore (Silver Spring, Md./Bullis School) posted a majordecision at 184-pounds and the Dukes gave up six points byforfeiting 197 pounds. However, the Dukes stayed in thematch when sophomore heavyweight D.J. Hockman (Strasburg,Va./Strasburg) pinned his foe with four seconds remaining,pulling JMU to within five points with two bouts remaining. The suspense was short-lived as 125-pounder andsophomore Joe Guzzio (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) registeredthe Terps' final fall, at 4:19, to put the match out ofreach.
