Jamie Pollard, associate athletic director at University of Maryland since the fall of 1994, has announced that he will leave his current post in mid-May to assume a similar position at the University of Wisconsin.
Pollard, 33, served as the Terrapins' chief financial officer, oversaw the business and facility operations of the department, and supervised nine intercollegiate sports. Maryland balanced its athletic budget all four years during his tenure. Pollard came to Maryland from Saint Louis University, where he worked under current Terps' athletic director Deborah A. Yow.
"It's sad, and yet I'm proud of seeing him grow and mature as a professional," Yow said."We've worked together for eight years, four years here and four at Saint Louis. And he's done a great job in both places. I am extremely appreciative of his contributions to the Terrapin athletic program. We have worked together through various and significant fiscal challenges, including balancing budgets and appropriately upgrading business policy and procedures. He has been very important part of our program in those areas. I have every confidence that he will contribute to and strengthen the Wisconsin program. And I know from my conversations with him that he will be happy to be back home. He will be sorely missed."
Said Pollard, "Being named CFO and associate athletic director at the University of Wisconsin is very exciting for my family and me. I was born and reared in Wisconsin and grew up an avid Badger fan. The chance to return home, be closer to my family, and work directly for Pat Richter is an opportunity that I could not pass up. I look forward to the new challenges that I will face in an athletic program with a budget of $42 million, average attendance of 77,000 people per game in football, and a top 10 ranking in the Sears' Director's Cup.
"I am proud of our accomplishments at Maryland, mainly balancing four straight budgets and paying off the $6.8 million in accumulated operating debt," he continued. "I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the many friends and colleagues that have positively impacted my life at Maryland, I am honored that Debbie gave me the opportunity to be a part of the Terrapin family."
Pollard was an All-American in track at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, winning the 1987 NCAA 5,000 meter championship. He and his wife, Ellen, have a son, Thomas, and are expecting another child this month.
