COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Sophomore attack Christine Jenkins scored a career-high four goals and added two assists to lead the fourth-ranked Maryland Terrapins to a 16-7 win over No. 12 Dartmouth. Freshman Quinn Carney scored her third 'hat trick' of the year while senior Cathy Nelson and freshman Jen Adams each added two goals apiece.
The Big Green, playing in their season opener, jumped out to an early lead after sophomore Jacque Weitzel scored an unassisted goal at the three minute mark. Three minutes later Maryland's Adams scored on an unassisted goal to tie it at one apiece. The first half remained close throughout before the Terps would run off four consecutive goals, including two for Maryland's Nelson, to take a 9-5 lead at half.
Jenkins would score two of her four goals in the second half as the Terps would jump out to a 14-5 lead before Dartmouth would get on the scoreboard. Weitzel would score her fourth and fifth goals of the afternoon at the 53 and 55 minute marks, respectively. She totaled five goals on the afternoon.
Jenkins notched her fourth goal at the 53 minute mark while freshman Torie Wellington scored with one second left.
Maryland improves to 4-2 overall, and have won four straight. Dartmouth falls to 0-1. The Terps host Old Dominion on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Ludwig Field.
