COLLEGE PARK, Md.--Tonight's Maryland at Georgia Tech women's basketball game,
originally scheduled to be aired on FOX SportsSouth, locally in the
Atlanta area, will be picked up and carried live in the
Baltimore/Washington, D.C. area on Home Team Sports (HTS). The Terrapins
and Yellow Jackets tipoff at 7 p.m.
Maryland, a 94-76 winner over Florida State last Sunday, appears in
its first live television game of the season. It is the first of four,
in four straight weeks.
After beginning the season 0-8 due to the absence of senior Kelley
Gibson and starting point guard Tiffany Brown, the Terps have rebounded
to go 3-5 since their return. Each of Maryland's losses during that
stretch have come against top 25 teams (Rutgers, Duke, Virginia, North
Carolina) and a defending national semifinalist (NC State advanced to
last year's Final Four). Maryland has averaged nearly 70 points a game
since their return, in stark contrast to a 48-point average in the
year's first eight games.
Perhaps most interesting about tonight's matchup is the battle
pitting Maryland's freshmen against Georgia Tech's freshman. The Yellow
Jackets boast perhaps the most dynamic newcomer to the league this
season in freshman Niesha Butler, who leads the ACC in scoring and has
six times been named the ACC Rookie of the Week. Maryland, meanwhile,
plays four freshman in its regular rotation with Ginji Perry and Deedee
Warley representing the Terps as past rookies of the week. Perry is
coming off a 27-point scoring effort in the win over Florida State,
while Warley is Maryland's leading scorer.
Tipoff is 7 p.m. tonight, live on HTS and FOX SportsSouth.
