Rival George Washington up Next for Women's Gymastics

TERPS FACE SE REGION RIVAL GEORGE WASHINGTON FOR SECOND TIME IN 1999
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - With a 10-4 record, the Terrapins will compete in their second straight home meet of the 1999 season against Southeast Region rival George Washington Wednesday night. The Terps faced the Colonials earlier this season on Jan. 23 at the George Washington Invitational and took first place in the meet over five teams, including a win over George Washingtonby a score of, 189.825-186.150. Maryland has compiled an all-time record of 20-26 against George Washington. Last season, the Terps faced the Colonials on three separate occasions and won the season series, 2-1. The last of the three meetings occurred in Ritchie Coliseum on March 11 with the Terps winning by a score of, 193.475-193.200.

TERPS TAKE FIRST AGAINST NO. 12 WEST VIRGINIA AND TEMPLE
Maryland scored an all-time high team score of 195.175, including season highs on vault (48.7), bars (48.650) and floor (48.825), to defeat EAGL rival No. 12 West Virginia and Temple Saturday afternoon at Ritchie Coliseum in its first home meet of the season. West Virginia came in second with a score of 193.100 and Temple came in third with a team score of 183.150. It was the Teps first regular season win over the Mountaineers since the last time that Maryland hosted West Virginia, in 1989, when the Terps defeated the Mountaineers, 186.950-185.350. The win over Temple marked the eighth consecutive regular season victory for the Terps over the Owls dating back to 1995.

COTE SETS NEW ALL-TIME HIGH IN ALL-AROUND
This past weekend against No. 12 West Virginia and Temple, freshman Gillian Cote (Fredericksburg, Md./James Monroe) recorded a career-high and new Maryland all-time high score of 39.300 in the all-around competition to take first place overall. Her score in the all-around was also the fifth time in five meets that she has recorded a score of 38.0 or better. Cote also registered a career-high and team season-high score on bars (9..825) and the second best Maryland all-time beam score (9.9) to finish in first and second place, respectively. She also placed second on floor with a score of 9.825.

MOON ONE STEP BEHIND COTE
If not for Gillian Cote, freshman Laura Moon (Scottsdale, Ariz./Saguaro) would now be the all-time Maryland record holder in the all-around. This past weekend, Moon scored a career-high 39.225 in the all-around, placing her second overall and marking the second best all-around score in Maryland hisory behind Coteis. Moon also captured first place on floor with a score of 9.850, setting a career-high and tying a team season high and Maryland all-time high. Her score on floor marks the fifth time in five meets that Moon has scored a 9.7 or better on floor. Moon also scored a career-high 9.775 on vault, earning her third place, and registered a career-high score of 9.750 on bars, placing her fourth overall. Moon also placed second on beam with a 9.850, the fourth best score in Maryland history.

DOLBIN AND JOHNSON SHOW THEIR STUFF
This past weekend, junior co-captain Rachel Dolbin (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) and freshman Kit Johnson (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem) kept up their stellar performances this season as they both scored extremely high in their particular events. Dolbin, the 1997 EAGL Outstanding Rookie Gymnast, recorded an all-around score of 38.100 to place her in fourth place overall. This included a season-high 9.775 on floor, placing her fourth overall behind three other Terps, and a 9.75 on beam, earning her third place behind two other Terps. Johnson continued her dominance on vault as she recorded a meet high 9.8 to tie for first place. Her score on vault marked the fourth time in five meets that she has registered a score of 9.7 or higher. Johnson also recorded a 9.750 on beam, placing her in a tie for third with two other Maryland gymnasts.
