COLLEGE PARK, Md. - With a record of 17-7, the Terrapins will compete in their last home regular season meet on Saturday, March 7 at 7 p.m. in Ritchie Coliseum against Southeast Region rivals No. 18 Florida and George Washington, and Rhode Island. This will be the third meeting of the season against George Washington and the first against Florida and Rhode Island. The Terps are 2-0 against the Colonials this season and have compiled an all-time record of 21-26 against George Washington. Maryland is 0-13 all-time against the Gators and 9-3 all-time against Rhode Island. The last time the Terps faced Florida during the regular season was in 1989 when the Gators won, 192.300-192.250. This is also the first time since the 1987 season that the Terps have faced Florida in College Park. Maryland has faced Rhode Island once in each of the past two seasons, going 1-1 in the two meetings. The Terps are 2-0 all-time at home against the Rams. Maryland has compiled a 14-5 all-time record against George Washington at home and are 2-3 in the last five meetings in College Park.
TERPS WIN THE WOLFPACK INVITATIONAL
The Terps recorded an all-time team high score of 195.425, breaking the old mark of 195.200, set one week ago, and recorded a season-high score of 49.175 on bars to take first place at the Wolfpack Invitational. Host and EAGL rival No. 24 NC State came in second with a score of 195.375 and James Madison took third with a score of 190.325. Rounding out the field were William & Mary (189.825), Radford (189.650) and Pennsylvania (187.850). The win over NC State marked the first regular season win over the Wolfpack since Feb. 9, 1997 when the Terps defeated NC State, 190.650-190.200. It also marked Marylands first win over NC State in Raleigh since the 1989 season when the Terps defeated the Wolfpack, 189.350-188.150.
FRESHMEN LEAD WAY FOR TERPS AT THE WOLFPACK INVITATIONAL
At the Wolfpack Invitational, the Maryland freshmen once again led the charge for the Terrapins. Gillian Cote (Fredericksburg, Va./James Monroe) finished in first place in the all-around competition for the third straight meet with a score of 39.325. This is the second highest score of her career and the third highest score in school history. She also tied for first on vault with a 9.7 and placed second on bars with a 9.9. Her score on bars tied the Maryland all-time high, which she set in the last meet. On beam, Cote finished in a tie for fourth place with a score of 9.875, the third highest of her career. On floor, Cote tied for second place with a score of 9.850, the fourth highest score in school history. Laura Moon (Scottsdale, Ariz./Saguaro) also helped propel the Terps to victory as she finished in third place in the all-around competition with a 39.150, marking the fifth consecutive meet that she has scored a 39.150 or better. On vault, Moon finished in a tie for first place with a 9.7, while on bars, she recorded a score of 9.850, placing fifth overall. Her score on bars also tied a career-high. On beam, Moon scored a 9.8, the second highest score of her career, earning her an eighth place finish. On floor, she tied for fourth place with a score of 9.8. Kit Johnson (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem) continued to shine on beam as she recorded a 9.925 to finish in second place. The score marks a career-high for Johnson as well as the second highest beam score in school history. On bars, twin sisters Lisa and Alyssa Mealey (Bensalem, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) finished in sixth and seventh place, respectively. Lisa recorded a score of 9.825, the second highest of her career, while Alyssa scored a 9.8, the highest mark of her career.
HOLCOMBE HEATING UP
Junior co-captain Christine Holcombe (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) recorded her best outing of the season at the Wolfpack Invitational, finishing in fourth place in the all-around competition with a career-high score of 38.975. This included a score of 9.8 on bars, tying a career-high and placing her in a tie for seventh place. On beam, Holcombe recorded a career-high 9.825 and on floor, she scored a 9.750. Both scores earned her seventh place finishes.
