COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland freshman forward Taylor Twellman scored his 13th goal of the season, scoring at the 8:36 mark to lead the 16th-ranked Terrapins to a 4-0 win against the Loyola Greyhounds on Tuesday evening at Ludwig Field in front of 495 fans. Twellman drilled a ball past Loyola goalkeeper Colley Bruce on a penalty kick.
The Terps would score twice more before the half off goals by senior forward Pierre Venditti (24:03) and sophomore forward Kirk Miller (40:06). Miller would tap the ball in from 10 yards out over Bruce's head after accepting a soft-touch pass from Twellman.
Maryland junior midfielder Jason Cropley would score from 15 yards out after beating his defender, as the ball sailed in from the left-hand side of the box at the 64:38 mark.
In goal, Maryland's Christian Lewis tied his season-high save total with seven while Bruce would chart four saves. Tonight's win against Loyola marked Maryland's fifth consecutive win against the Greyhounds, improving its series record against Loyola to 8-4-5.
Maryland continues its homestand on Saturday, hosting second-ranked Clemson at 7 p.m. It is the final ACC regular-season match of the year, and Maryland's second-to-last match of the year. The Terps close out the 1998 season at home on Nov. 7, hosting Michigan State at 2 p.m.
Maryland improves to 11-5 overall while Loyola fell to 8-7-2.
