STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Lisa Shepherd scored 17 points and No. 20 Penn State won its sixth straight game, a 79-44 victory over winless Maryland on Thursday night.

The Nittany Lions have not lost since dropping their opener to Pittsburgh on Nov. 18.

A combination of solid defense and rebounding helped Penn State (6-1) build a 31-20 halftime lead. The Terrapins (0-7) struggled against the Nittany Lions' fullcourt pressure, turning the ball over 32 times to Penn State's nine. They also were outrebounded 51-30.

Maryland pulled within nine points with 15:35 remaining on a jumper by Deedee Warley, but they could get no closer, as Penn State went on a 22-8 run paced by three 3-pointers from Shepherd and Shawnta Vanzant.

Warley finished with 18 points.

Vanzant had 11 points and five rebounds, while center Andrea Garner had 12 points and five rebounds for Penn State.
